Star mark or logo mark: how old is your pen?
A star or a red logo near the eraser: this little mark tells you when your pen is from. And it turns two pens with the same code into two pieces.
Turn your pen around. On the barrel, just above the eraser, there's a small printed mark.
There are two kinds: a star or a red logo. It's the easiest way to tell how old your pen is.

The star: the first pens
The star is the colour of the ink, or white. No pen released in 2023 or later has it.
The red logo: what came next
The logo replaced the star. It already shows up on astronauts made in late 2022.
Only on the first twelve codes
The star only exists from EP0001 to EP0012. Eleven of those codes also exist with the logo.
The white unicorn EP0004 is only known with the star. So is the white-tip astronaut of EP0009.
Two marks, two pieces
Same code, same drawing, same barcode: only the mark tells them apart. So a scan can't know which one you have. You say which when you add it.
Here, the star and the logo are collected separately. For the same code, collectors go after the star, the older one.
Good to know
The mark doesn't follow changes to the drawing. The grumpy shark of EP0006 exists with both marks.
Legami no longer sells new pens with a star mark. To find one, you'll have to buy second-hand.
